To support individuals with limb trauma resulting from boating incidents and promote safe boating and diving practices.
As soon as Carter arrived at the hospital, his friends from school, co-workers, and members of his church dropped what they were doing on Thanksgiving and joined Carter in the Intensive Care Unit. They were there to comfort his parents who flew out from Denver on the night of the incident and helped them through all the logistics of their uprooted lives.
Carter was motivated to start the Carter Viss Foundation based on overwhelming generosity and support from his community. He wants to make sure that anyone going through the extreme trauma of a boating incident has a community supporting their recovery and comforting a family who is in shock and grieving.
We strive to support individuals by guiding them through the logistics of their hospital care, whether it is financial or functional. In addition, we provide emotional support to these individuals. Our goal is to inspire them to make the best of their life changing situation and getting them back to doing activities they love.
We also aim to support the family of the affected individual through providing housing needs, meals, and financial assistance as they are focused on their loved one.
Carter wants to make sure that no one experiences what he went through again. There were several preventative safety factors in the accident that could have stopped this from happening.
The Carter Viss Foundation serves as a source to educate the community about the importance of following boating and diving safety protocols.
We educate boating and diving safety through distributing information to the public, producing videos that demonstrate safe practices and participating in community events.
All marine life photographs on the website were taken by Carter while diving.
